“The End of the Age?”

Romans 15:20

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation.

Thoughts for Today:

In many ways I share Paul's desire to bring the Gospel to areas where Christ is not known. I know my friends, Len Renfer and Jim West, share this same ambition. It's probably why we have gone on six missionary expeditions together over the last three years, to some of the most remote places on earth -- to preach the Gospel where Christ is not known. But it's becoming increasingly difficult to find those areas.

Most recently we were walking on a path, in a part of southern Sudan pretty far removed from civilization as we know it, when we came upon a cluster of tukuls (African mud and thatched roof huts). The villagers came out to greet us, but a little girl around the age of four screamed and ran back to hide behind her mother's skirt. Why? Because she had never seen a white person before and she was afraid of us. After we introduced ourselves, one of our group asked if anyone knew about Christ. The little girl peaked around her mother's skirt and nodded her head.

Maybe it's my American world view, but I found it interesting, that a four year old African girl had heard about Jesus, yet had never seen a white person. I'll bet she's never seen a Scooby-Do cartoon, a surfboard, or the inside of a car either. But she knew Jesus. I think that's a pretty important warning for us all to heed. The end of the age comes when all have been given the opportunity to accept Christ. Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Based on my experience, I think we're pretty close right now.

Questions to Ponder:

A man once asked me, "If you knew you were dying tomorrow, how would you spend your last day? What if you had a week? A month?" Certainly time with loved ones (spouse, children, friends) would be a big part of the time I spent. But for me, being right with God, each and every day, is always at the top of my list. Why? Because we don't know when God will choose to take us home. We should live each day as if it was our last. Are you ready? Have you been assured of your place in God's eternal kingdom? Have you been living your life with Christ as both Lord and Savior? Time is short. Don't wait too long.
