“"Who Has Authority In Your Life?"”

Ephesians 3:17a

...so that Christ may dwell in your hearts…

Thoughts for Today:

As a young man, when I first became a Christian, I invited Jesus into my heart and life. At first He was simply a guest. There were times when I entertained or went out with friends that I simply ignored Him. I often left Him at home when I played ball, went to school and work, or even drove my car. Still, I did spend some time with Him. I prayed, studied my Bible, and attended church and Bible studies -- all with Him present.

Eventually He began to ask some disturbing questions of me, "Why can't I go with you more places? Is there something wrong?" Of course the answer was, "There are parts of my life You wouldn't like and I don't want to change." So life went on, the years went by, and my relationship with Jesus became somewhat distant. I didn't see Him around much and I became concerned. I was slipping back into the old person I had been. I began searching for Him once again in Scripture and I found He was right where I left Him -- I was the one who changed my focus to exclude Him.

As Christ once again began His work in me, I resolved to make Him the center of everything. I gave Him all authority in my life. For example, He would become the new Chairman of the Board of my business (I would work for Him). He would lead and guide me in relationships and activities -- from parenting to marriage; friendships old and new; lifestyle and any other interests. I committed to answer, "Yes, Lord," whenever He called. As a result, my life has never been richer, or more filling and satisfying. It certainly isn't perfect, but I have a keen awareness of what Paul is speaking about when he says, "so that Christ may dwell in your hearts." It is the key to a victorious Christian life. Jesus will never force Himself upon us, however the benefits of His indwelling Spirit are beyond measure.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you given your life over to Jesus? This isn't a question about salvation, but rather who has authority. Does Jesus? Will you trust Him? He is more than worthy.
